Tree Farming on West Brook Mountain

Although developer Jack Levkovitz does have an approved forest management plan filed with both the Borough and the State Forest Service, his tree harvesting did create several problems. First, he was adding new roads to drag his trees from the woods, even though his plan called for 'no new skid trails,' and directed him to use the 'existing woods roads' on site. Secondly, he was actively harvesting along the stream corridors running down the mountain and crossing Crescent Road. The DEP inspector who toured the site informed CLEAN that he was removing vegetation within 10 feet of a stream, even though a borough ordinance says that no harvesting is allowed within 100 feet. He also used Crescent Road as his landing area for staging the removal of the trees, not the designated area, and he used his tree farming activity as an excuse for the portion of Sonoma Court he constructed illegally, saying it was part of his tree farming activity.

Many large trees were dragged out of the woods along three streams off of Crescent Road.

Another angle of the trees removed.

Skid trails were cut right along stream beds, not in accordance with the developer's forest management plan.

Restoration is supposed to be done after the harvest is over, but it didn't happen in this case.
