Environmental groups raise fundsFriday, October 5, 2007 Two Highlands environmental groups used a lot of financial resources to defeat housing proposals in West Milford over the past several years. Now they're trying to recoup some of that money with fund-raisers. Skylands CLEAN and the Pequannock River Coalition fought the Eagle Ridge and Valley Ridge town-house projects, which would have brought in nearly 400 units to the township. The groups spent thousands of dollars in attorney fees and hired a hydrogeologist to dispute the developers' claims that sufficient water exists to supply the proposed developments. Skylands CLEAN will host a 20th anniversary dinner and silent auction at the Regency House in Pequannock on Oct. 13. The organization also is in the midst of a fund-raising drive that is being matched dollar for dollar by the Geraldine Dodge Foundation. For more information, go to skyclean.org or call 973-962-6602. The Pequannock River Coalition is acting as host to the Heart of the Highlands Run/Walk at the Autumn Lights Festival on Oct. 13 starting at Macopin Middle School at 9 a.m. Registration is $20 and begins at 7:30 a.m. For more information go to pequannockriver.org or call 973-492-3212. -- Barbara Williams Copyright © 2007 North Jersey Media Group Inc.
