BY BARBARA WILLIAMS STAFF WRITER RINGWOOD — Spend a lazy day rowing a kayak or canoe on the Monksville Reservoir Saturday at the kayak event sponsored by the environmental group Skylands CLEAN. Staff from CLEAN will lead the paddling tour through the historic area beginning at 2 p.m. Float through an eerie grove of dead trees, created when the area was flooded to create the reservoir in 1986, paddle to the mouth of the Wanaque River and skim by the Long Pond Ironworks. Rowers may also travel under the Route 511 bridge to explore the coves on the reservoir’s edge and see the Monksville Dam. Turtles, swallows, swans and other wildlife will be visible. All participants must wear life jackets and children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Paddlers are also invited to bring a picnic to enjoy on the banks of the reservoir and hike through the Ironworks. The event is free. Bring your own kayak or canoe. Rain date is Sunday. Meet at the Monksville South Boat Launch on Beech Road. For further information call CLEAN at 973-962-6602 or email rohearn@skyclean.org.
